Rooted in Volunteerism, Growing Through Community
The Maine Doula Coalition was founded on many hours of volunteer labor by people committed to the expansion of doula care and the creation of a supported, sustainable doula workforce. Volunteers have helped us build coalitions, advocate for policy change, and increase access to care for families across the state.

Today, our work continues to be shaped by community effort. If you’re passionate about maternal health equity, movement-building, or public health systems, we welcome your skills, time, and creativity.
You do not need to be a doula to volunteer with MDC.
What You’ll Gain:
-
Real-world grassroots community building efforts.
-
A deeper understanding of perinatal equity issues in Maine
-
The chance to connect with changemakers across the state

A Note on Volunteer Boundaries
While our organization was built by volunteers committed to perinatal equity, we are clear that doulas are essential, paid members of the care team. Volunteer roles with MDC focus on coalition-building, advocacy, and community education, rather than unpaid doula work.
We advocate strongly for doulas as essential, paid members of the care team.
